Sand is necessary when constructing or installing an above-ground pool in order to ensure a stable and even base or foundation for the pool to sit on top of. The type of sand used to lay beneath pools also helps to add a protective layer between the ground and the pool liner, preventing rocks that may be beneath the surface from penetrating your pool as the ground settles.
What type of sand should you use for beneath above-ground pools?
For the base of your above-ground pool you will want to use very fine sand that is free from rocks and pebbles, this type of sand may be referred to by a few different terms depending upon whom you ask, including pool sand, mason(ry) sand, mortar sand, concrete sand and more.
